New Year’s resolutions seem to get a fair amount of negative press these days…I saw numerous comments on my Facebook wall on New Year’s Day in reference to making changes all year instead at the beginning, setting one’s self up for failure, being unrealistic. I can agree with those statements to a certain extent but I also find myself exasperated at those type of comments. They are so negative about resolutions being negative! Of course we can choose to make changes any time of year (and I DO) but I actually like the idea of starting off a fresh, new year with some goals in mind. I enjoy thinking ahead to the next year and what I hope to accomplish in my life. Many times a broken resolution was an unrealistic goal in the first place, one the maker knew they were going to end up breaking, eventually. I make realistic resolutions that I know I can either keep or at least will not devastate me if I “fail” to follow through but I also want them to be challenging so I have a sense of accomplishment when I reach my goal. By the end of the year, if I don’t keep one or two or all of them, so what? I can try again next year or just change my goals. They are goals, not contracts with myself, written in stone. No big deal. Resolutions and the making or breaking of them is not a life or death situation. If you chose not to make them this year for whatever reason, I urge you to not “poo-poo” the idea for your friends and family who have made them. Pass on the sarcasm and negative “new year’s resolutions are stupid” type of comments and support your friends and family in their goals for 2012. Meeting their goals will be easier and celebrating them will be so much sweeter if they have your support along the way.
So, without further ado, my New Year’s Resolutions for 2012:
Learn to work with polymer clay
Explore Needle Felting
Sew more
Blog more
Go to bed earlier, wake up earlier
Manage my time more efficiently
Find my old organized self – she got lost somewhere in the last 3 years and I want her back!!
Generally, be a better person - less critical, less judgmental, more positive, more joyful.
Smile more.
Stop being so hard on myself
Use my DSLR camera more, in manual mode(s)
Transform my house into a home, one room at a time – I’ve lived here for nearly 2 years and still do not have paint or pictures on the walls.
Start the Couch 2 5K program – when the weather warms up!
Huh. As I made my list above, the word “more” leapt out at me a few times so I guess I’m already halfway there on those goals, I just need to make them a higher priority!
What about you? Did you make resolutions or goals for 2012? Why or why not?
